As they are transmitted through the internet, emails can easily be read by unauthorised persons or even forged. Emails with sensitive content or sensitive attachments should therefore always be encrypted.
Information or data are classified as sensitive if their knowledge by authorised parties or their forgery would result in unacceptable damage. This would be the case, for instance, if serious competitive disadvantage, massive reputational damage or high contractual penalties were to result.
Personal information and data that go beyond the identification of a person (income, marital status, etc.) are also classified as sensitive (cf. Federal Data Protection Act).
Deutsche Leasing can exchange confidential emails that have been encrypted using the S/MIME internet standard and OpenPGP.
If you are unsure which encryption standard works with your business, please contact the operator of your email infrastructure.
If you do not support either standard we can also offer SecureMail messenger as an alternative.
